This test challenges you to demonstrate your knowledge of vocabulary, grammar and the function of words in sentences and longer texts. We have taken a text on a certain topic, and have omitted words in it. We will ask questions about each gap. We want to test whether (a) you can see where the word has been left out and/or (b) which word has been omitted.
By taking this test, you permit us to use your answers anonymously to improve future tests. We will not divulge your personal particulars or score to anyone, and will, after we have analysed the results, destroy any personal references that we may have recorded, and store only the answers.
If you have questions, or wish to contact us afterwards, you are more than welcome to contact either Richard Yan (richard_yan@commontown.com) or Albert Weideman (albert.weideman@ufs.ac.za), the test developers.
You have 12 minutes to complete the test and more or less one minute per question, but the quicker you can accurately complete the test, the better an indicator it is of the fluency you have with words. So try to beat the time limit!
